I've had this work done many times before at max it has costed me $150.
They wanted to do all this extra work when all it should have been was an hour or two of labor.
I definitely do not recommend this place at all.
Had my brakes done here shortly after moving into town. Fair prices, good work and excellent customer service. As a student on a budget I can't ask for more than that. Highly recommend.
First I bring my rusted truck exhaust to get welded together. But before they would do that they looked over the entire exhaust. They explained that my gaskets on the block to the headers where completely worn out and it was leaking. The exhaust was not hanging on the hangers properly so they wanted to replace the entire exhaust and gaskets.
Basically this place would have let a beginner work on my car which could have taken him 3+ hours which is unnecessary time when I could do it myself in less than an hour if I had a welder myself.
I highly recommend The Muffler Shop. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They even manged to squeeze me into their busy schedule just to make sure my car was safe to drive. I will definitely bring my Subaru here for future service/maintenance work.
As a tech student and future engineer I could never recommend this place just by the way they try and scam customers. This is the reason no one trusts mechanics because they get a bad rep from places like this.
I am an ASE certified mechanic and the way they "sell" to people is just not right at all.
After I denied the work and asked them to just weld the piece together I originally asked for, the exhaust works perfectly without any leaks.
I brought my Subaru in in July of 2015. Service technician advised all 4 brake calipers to be replaced, but could service 2 of them with what they had in stock. I was initially satisfied with their work. In January of 2017 (16 months later), the same 2 brake calipers that were serviced by the Muffler Shop had completely failed on a 300 mile trip. I was left stranded, needing a tow truck to limp into the nearest repair shop for servicing. Turns out the 2 replaced calipers had completely seized, dropped the brake pads, and destroyed the rotors. This required all 4 sets of pads and rotors, and 2 calipers to be replaced on the spot so that I could make it back home. I'm fairly upset having spent $570 at their shop and had that turned into another $800+ repair.
I decide to give them a second chance against by gut, but I decided to go in for an estimate and to schedule and appointment. I was told that no estimate could be given and that it could be any amount of time. At $89 per hour even 5 hours would be $445 plus whatever other amount they would have added on.
I'm a college student at Michigan tech, and when I knew I had a problem with my brakes that I couldn't fix myself due to lack of time/tools I took it to another shop who basically blew me off and told me I was exaggerating the problem. Then I decided to try the muffler shop. They listened to my explanation and took their time, to call me before doing anything to the vehicle. They didn't give me the run around trying to sell me on replacing other parts either and told me what I could do myself instead of spending extra $$. They also warranty their work! Great friendly shop would recommend to anyone for any auto repair. Very great business which is hard to say for an auto repair shop.
